This environmentally-progressive new facility features 107 640 sq.ft of flex space for a variety of technology and trade education programs. Fittingly, the architecture celebrates material connections and construction sensibilities. Taking inspiration from an airship floating over the rolling hills, a rational design approach respected the limited budget while achieving an ambitious program on a sloped-view site. Sustainable imperatives include a re-useable structural system that enables future flexibility, low-tech cost effective and long lasting building materials, intelligent building siting, passive solar heating and day lighting strategies. As well, integrated high-performance building systems maximize user comfort and experience. Exposed structural elements, transparency and deliberate detailing celebrate the assembly, potential and connection of materials while providing an architectural expression appropriate to the technical and educational spirit of the building.
