VCC station was conceived with the spirit of a seafaring craft dry-docked along the shoreline. Its architecture responds to the vast array of shipping and industry within the site and context: To the north, its billowing platform roofs rise to the scale of the city beyond, offer a compelling “ship shape” view over Clark Drive bridge with a rise to allow south sun on a winter’s day to warm the awaiting travelers on the train platform. A south facing civic plaza provides gathering space and anticipates further development of adjacent sites.
