Small is beautiful, old is new. An innovative addition and renovation of this late 50’s prototype kit home by architect Henry Yorke Mann required a sensitive and creative approach to successfully add new components, such as a laneway workshop, to the original context. A wooden structural exoskeleton was constructed over the original home, connected by a glazed gasket to support a collection of new “parts”. The abundance of glass provides rich forested views and a sense of escape from the dense suburban neighbourhood, just 10 minutes from downtown Vancouver.
