With a captive audience of ferry commuters, truckers and tourists, this retail hub is sited on a man-made, wind-swept rock jetty on the edge of the Straight of Georgia, designed as a retail oasis and amenity hub for travelers. An appropriate aesthetic is established by referencing wood framed sailing craft, large scale nautical docks, fishing and logging villages. Partially pre-fabricated to expedite construction, masonry core blocks offer a robust anchor to the structure while glue laminated roof beams, elliptical columns and cast aluminum joint casting and truss king posts provide lightness. Inviting courtyards, playgrounds and food services areas add to the sense of comfort and refuge.
